EFFECT OF SITTING POSITION USING THE “ESA” MATERNITY CHAIR TOWARDS DURATION OF SECOND STAGE LABOR IN INDEPENDENT MIDWIFERY PRACTICE AT DISTRICT TASIKMALAYA 2019

Abstract


Complications of maternal death include, bleeding, infection, and preeclampsia. Obstetric factors of bleeding are history of bleeding, prolonged labor, anemia, and mismanagement in the third stage. Prolonged labor is caused by inability of power, passengers, and passage. In optimizing the position variety ways can be used, one of them is the help of tools such as maternity chair. The ESA Maternity Chair carries an ergonomic, healthy and safe concept. The "ESA" Maternity Chair eligibility test showed 74.5% which indicated that the "ESA" maternity chair was suitable as a childbirth chair. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of sitting position using the "ESA" maternity chair on the length of second stage labor in Midwife Independent Practice in District Tasikmalaya 2019.       

This research was Quasi Experimental Design with a cross sectional approach. The study was conducted in November - December 2019. The location of the study was in the "W" and “L” Midwife Independent Practice in Tasikmalaya. There were 20 respondents involved. Data collection was carried out by observation using partographs.

       The results of the study the respondents with the use of the maternity chair "ESA" showed an average length of second stage labor for 17 minutes 4 seconds, while the control group showed the average of 53 minutes. Independent T-Test statistical test showed p value of 0.031. There is an influence of the use of the "ESA" maternity chair on the length of the second stage labor. It is recommended for health workers to be able to keep up with technological developments, especially in the childbirth practice and always facilitate various positions of delivery for mothers.
